Three Oaks Innovations, Inc. (TOI) is a not-for-profit independent company established by the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) that is embedded within the Office of Research Services at UPEI.  TOI assists researchers in transforming their innovative ideas into commercial products, business opportunities, and public knowledge. TOI also facilitates linking business to applied research capacity within UPEI.

TOI invites applications for the position of Technology Transfer and Industry Liaison Officer who will have the responsibility for identifying innovative intellectual property (IP) and assisting in developing strategies to convey intellectual property (IP) into commercial applications. A key component of the position involves liaising with UPEI’s academic community by recognizing innovative technologies, identifying potential industry partners, and assisting in the development of strategic commercial partnerships to advance UPEI technologies. The TT/IL Officer must be able to understand the research technicalities to determine which IP has significant value as a commercial or contract research opportunity and to identify potential collaborators, development partners, investors and funding agencies.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

• Working with research teams to identify IP that has sufficient commercial value to push through the commercialization pipeline;

• Assisting in establishing new partnerships and collaborations regarding research development and commercialization activities;

• Supporting the development of business models for new innovation-based opportunities;

• Assisting in developing recommendations for protection and commercialization of IP arising from UPEI;

• Conducting market intelligence and developing competitive strategies for technologies, projects, proposals;

• Identifying in-and-out licensing opportunities for IP;

• Assisting in developing marketing strategies for UPEI technologies to attract licensees;

• Developing technology assessments and making recommendations related to further development, and the potential for technology transfer and/or commercialization;

• Representing TOI at conferences, trade shows or other events as required.

This position reports directly to the CEO of Three Oaks Innovations Inc., is full time, and available immediately. The TT/IL Officer must be able to understand and evaluate the research content and technicalities to determine which technologies and services have significant value as a commercial opportunity.  He/she must be able to assist in in preparing investment opportunity packages for presentation to potential partners.

The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience related to the position supplemented with a PhD in biosciences, engineering or other relevant discipline. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.  This position requires excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to frame complex technical ideas into the language of the potential industry partner, collaborator or funding agency.
