$51,110 to $56,000 per annum, prorated to term as per CUPE 1870

May 1, 2014 to April 30, 2016 (Term may be reduced or extended depending on performance, available funding and departmental requirements.) 

Reporting to the Finance Officer, Research Accounting, this position assists in the administration of the University=s research accounts (both grant and contract based). The duties will be on an ‘as assigned basis’ covering the range of activities described below.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists Finance Officer in reconciliation and analysis of research account balances
• Assists in coordinating and monitoring unit workloads and associated deadlines
• Monitors accounts for funding availability and contract compliance
• Reviews budgets and expenditures, and monitors expenditures against budgets
• Prepares financial reports required by various funding agencies
• Monitors research accounts receivable, including invoicing & collections  
• Reviews financial reports completed by clerk(s)
• Assists in coordinating of audit requests
• Liaises with principal investors, external funding agencies, and other University departments
• Sound knowledge of departmental and University regulations and policies
• Works with limited supervision

QUALIFICATIONS:

The incumbent will have a university degree in Business with a focus in accounting and finance. A minimum of 3 years experience, preferably in a University or similar setting; familiarity with research accounting would be an asset; the ability to negotiate and work with external agencies and department heads; detailed knowledge of and experience working  with computerized accounting systems, spreadsheets and database query programs; excellent analytical skills; exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work well with others while meeting regular deadlines, demonstrate excellent professional, interpersonal and communication skills.
