 Career Services, as part of Student Affairs at the University of Prince Edward Island, invites applications to fill a Career Practitioner Position (temporary grant funded ).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Core responsibilities for the position will include working with the current career counsellor by assisting with resume development and the writing of cover letters , interview skills, job search strategies, delivery of career related services through workshops and presentation, and coordinating different career related events and activities for the student body.
• Deliver career and employment information in the career centre and classroom
• Assist with the development of career and employment information and provide students with relevant and helpful career and employment resources
• Develop and implement strategies to engage students in the career development process, which would include in person and social media strategies
• Collaborate with faculty departments to develop, implement, and evaluate customized events and programs for students. Events may include career fairs, panels, information sessions, workshops, etc.
• Assist in marketing and promoting Career Services programs to students, staff, faculty, university partners, and workplace community
• Deliver presentations regarding career and employment related topics and other related presentations deemed necessary
• Establish and maintain networks with professional associations and community organizations that support the career development process
• Maintain and update career resource materials which would include maintaining and refreshing the career employment website
• Other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline and at least two years of relevant work experience in the area of career development. Experience advising and instructing clients on a variety of career development and work search issues such as career exploration, resumes/cover letters, networking, interviewing, and labour market information. Experience creating and delivering career and work search instructional workshops. Strong writing, presentation and public speaking skills. Experience using web-based platforms and instructional technology to teach and engage students in career development issues. Experience with social media software and networking applications such as blogs, podcasts, LinkedIn and Twitter. Proven competence in planning and conducting programs and social events. Experience leading and participating in projects involving multiple stakeholders. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong computer skills including MS Office tools and Google Applications. Ability to collaborate in a team environment and to work effectively with all levels of University personnel.
