MTS Level 5 - Accessibility Support Facilitator - Student Affairs
September 1, 2018 to June 20, 2019 (Term may be reduced or extended depending on performance, available funding and departmental requirements)
The Director of Student Affairs and the Coordinator of Accessibility Services are looking for an Accessibility Facilitator. This person is a vital part of the Student Affairs team and reports to the Coordinator of Accessibility Services. This person needs to have experience working with students with disabilities and be able to work independently. This role contributes and monitors the provision of academic supports and services to students who have a diagnosed disability and are registered with Accessibility Services.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manage Access Deck (register all UPEI and AVC students who are registered with Accessibility Services in Access Deck for testing accommodations)
• Provide Access Deck training to students and proctors
• Coordinate, schedule, and administer accommodation test and exam support services for UPEI and AVC exams
• Schedule and book rooms that will accommodate the individual needs of students
• Communicate exam location, time, and accommodations to students and faculty
• Maintain confidentiality and security of all testing materials
• Ensure access to exam materials in a timely manner
• Invigilating UPEI and AVC internal exams (may include some evenings and weekends)
• Provide all accommodations needed for any exam invigilated through Accessibility Services. For example, scribing services, text to speech software, increased time to write exams and low lighting, to name a few.
• Set up, operate and provide support for adaptive technology used for students to complete tests and exams
• Provide oversight of academic integrity principles and practices
• Support the Coordinator in the training, supervision, and scheduling of test proctors, scribes and readers
• Oversee exam proctors during all exam sessions (on call or on location)
• Provide referrals for academic support to students with accessibility needs
• Act as the main point of contact for Accessibility Services and perform administrative duties, primarily scheduling appointments
QUALIFICATIONS:
• The candidate will have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s Degree or equivalent preferred) with at least 2 years of experience working with university students with accessibility needs
• An understanding of appropriate teaching pedagogies, accommodations and inclusive practices are essential
• Experience using Kurzweil, Dragon Dictate, the LiveScribe SmartPen, Access Deck, Sonocent, Macintosh and PC computer systems are essential
• The successful candidate will exhibit dependability and honesty and have excellent organizational and time management skills
• Supervisory experience as well as knowledge of the administration and coordination of exams is an asset
