The University of Prince Edward Island is seeking a Manager of Maintenance Services to work within the Facilities Management Department. Reporting to the Director of Facilities Management and working as part of the departmental management team, this position will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the buildings to provide safe, reliable and high quality physical facilities for students, faculty and staff on the University campus. The Manager is also responsible for the maintenance of the grounds; minor building repairs, and the operation of the Facilities Maintenance Work Order System.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage and build strong positive relationships with staff, internal and external customers, while delivering a high quality service
• Assist in the development of policies, procedures, work practices and system and user documentation for the department
• Monitor and analyze departmental key performance indicators, benchmarks, and other statistical surveys and analysis to ensure the best timely, reliable and repeatable qualitative and quantitative information is available for management decision making
• Assist in the development of the long-term capital plan in conjunction with the Director and Managers of Facilities Management
• Coordinates the ongoing maintenance of the computer based Maintenance Work Order System to support maintenance, custodial and projects.  Provides training as required for management and staff
• Manages maintenance division needs for supplies and equipment and recommend new acquisitions
• Manages the maintenance of the buildings and their mechanical and electrical systems and all associated equipment and systems
• Trouble shoot and analyze problems relative to the buildings and their mechanical and electrical systems
• Manages grounds maintenance and snow and ice removal
• Prepares and maintains the Facilities Management Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedure
• Manage subordinates including performance evaluation, setting goals and priorities, preparing job descriptions, hiring, mentoring, training, conducting disciplinary action when necessary, and assigning and prioritizing work
• Manage contractors completing building and grounds maintenance work on campus
• Delivers a high quality service by anticipating needs and developing a reputation for responsiveness
• Assist the Director on other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

• University Graduate in Business Administration or related area of study, or an Engineering Degree or related area of study or an equivalent combination of education and study
• Minimum of three (3) years in a related leadership or management position with strong demonstrated skills in human resources, planning organizing and managing employees
• Experience working in an unionized environment and maintenance management experience would be a definite asset
• Knowledge of building systems and maintenance and experience working in an unionized environment would be a definite asset
• Experience using computer systems is required.
• Experience with facilities management software would be an asset
• Working knowledge of a variety of government acts and legislation such as Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Health and Safety (H&S), Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Workplace Health Safety, and other applicable legislation would be an asset
• Ability to work in a team environment and foster teamwork
• Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills
• Maintenance supervision requires strong human resource and planning skills to address daily activities
• Ability to develop and maintain productive interpersonal relationships with staff, faculty, professionals, and external agencies
• Ability to plan, organize and monitor work activities of self and subordinates; ability to plan, organize and monitor activities according to priorities, established schedules and deadlines
• Ability to organize, analyzes, interpret and evaluate problems and provide practical, cost effective solutions
• Participates in continuing education activities to ensure own professional development in the field of maintenance
