18.75 hours per week, may include Saturdays

$49,231.00 to $54,164.00 per annum, prorated to time and term as per CUPE 1870 (plus out of scale adjustment).

Diagnostic Services invites applications from experienced and motivated medical Laboratory Technologists to provide technical and related laboratory services in the discipline of veterinary bacteriology.


• The successful Technologist will perform routine diagnostic bacteriology and mycology on samples of aquatic , avian and mammalian animal species submitted to the Diagnostic Services Bacteriology Laboratory. 
• The work involves set up, processing and analysis of bacteriologic and mycotic submissions from tissue/blood and other samples from aquatic animals, livestock, companion animals, birds and wildlife.  The submissions are recorded into the laboratory management system and the results are entered, printed and communicated back to the client as request.
•  In addition, routine laboratory maintenance and inventory of supplies and isolates is required.
• The technologist must be able to work independently and with others, multi-task, and be responsive in a timely, effective and professional manner to the service, teaching, and research mandates of the AVC.  Assisting with fourth year DVM diagnostic services bacteriology rotations (VPM 450) will be required.


• A Medical Lab Technologist (MLT) designation and a relevant number of years of practical diagnostic bacteriology experience is required. 
• A Bachelor of Science degree or experience in veterinary diagnostic bacteriology would be as asset.
• Good computer data entry, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills are required.
