The mandate of UPEI’s Office of Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is to enhance students’ career skills and to expand the range of experiential and work-integrated learning opportunities for UPEI students.   In collaboration with Career Services and Co-operative Education, the WIL Student Advisor will work directly with students preparing them to be successful in obtaining internships, practicums, and other forms of experiential learning.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Deliver career, employment and experiential learning information one-on-one, in small groups and classroom settings
• Assist with the development of career, employment and experiential learning information and provide students with relevant and helpful resources
• Develop and implement strategies to engage students in the career development process, which would include in-person and social media strategies
• Provide coaching to students as they develop individual action plans and career portfolios
• Create, coordinate and execute career related events such as career fairs, panels, information sessions, workshops, etc.
• Assist in marketing and promoting Career Services programs to students, staff, faculty, university partners, and workplace community
• Collaborate with faculty departments to develop, implement, and evaluate customized events and programs for students
• Deliver presentations regarding career and employment related topics and other related presentations deemed necessary
• Establish and maintain networks with employers, and professional associations and organizations that support the career development process
• Maintain and update career resource materials which would include maintaining and refreshing the career employment website

QUALIFICATIONS:

• An undergraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g.: Humanities, Counselling, Education)
• A master’s degree would be considered an asset
• Experience in the theory and practice of career planning and employment issues
• Demonstrated experience in a teaching, coaching, mentoring or related leadership role; experience working in a post-secondary environment would be considered an asset
• Competence with computers and technology:  MS Office Suite, researching, organizing and analyzing information. Skilled in using emergent technologies, social media/promotion
• Must demonstrate excellent English proficiency and competence with Moodle or similar course management systems
• An understanding of and sensitivity to cross-cultural experiences and educational backgrounds, and work culture in other countries
• Outstanding relationship management skills, ability to take initiative, and comfort with making presentations and interacting in groups
