The Atlantic Veterinary College is currently seeking a research assistant for an equine research project.  This position requires an enthusiastic individual, who is capable of working independently, possesses excellent communication skills and has an ability to work in a team approach environment. 


This research project is a survey designed to determine the awareness and compliance of the Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Equines on horse farms in PEI.  It is expected to increase awareness regarding equine welfare for horse owners in PEI.

The successful applicant will help to develop, organize and implement the research project by collecting data on farm and entering the data into a database for statistical analysis.  The veterinarian will also communicate results of the survey to the owner with any management recommendations derived from the data.


• Must be a DVM and have experience working with horses
• Knowledge of equine welfare
• Knowledge of The Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Equines
• Must have excellent communication skills
• Must be self-motivated and be able to work as part of a team, but must also be able to work independently as required
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a vehicle for farm visits/data collection
