The Department of Biomedical Sciences is seeking applications for a part-time student research assistant position.


The position is required to work in a lab, under the direction of Dr. Sunny Hartwig, to perform dissections, process kidney tissue slides using immunofluorescence microscopy and perform image analysis using ImageJ and other NIH software. The work entails highly focused and exact processing of several thousand digital images in a dark room.


• Ideally, this position will form the basis of an honours thesis project. Therefore, the candidate must be committed to pursue a 4th year honours thesis project under the co-supervision of Dr. Hartwig and a faculty member of the Biology Department at UPEI
• Must have excellent computer proficiency and in-lab molecular biology experience, preferably with experience in microscopy
• Must have a strong academic record, a very strong work ethic, very strong focus, and independence
• Strong references demonstrating these skills are required (names and contact information of references must be provided)

Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and Procedures manual.
