 The AVC AIF-6 Healthy Fish, Healthy Environment, Health Food project at the University of Prince Edward Island is looking to create a list of Fish Health Technicians for casual on-call employment in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador for the 2013 research season.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful applicants will assist in carrying out a variety of field-based research projects. These positions may involve occasional travel within Newfoundland to work at hatcheries, sea cage sites (requiring travel by boat) and/or temporary sampling stations set up in processing plants, the AVC field office/lab or other locations. Irregular hours and some weekend work will occur.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school graduate.
• Preference will be given to candidates with a Laboratory or Aquaculture Technician/Technologist Certificate or Diploma.
• The ability to work independently as a member of a team is required.
• Other skills required include the capability to do repetitive work, excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to learn quickly.
• The work can be physically demanding, and may involve heavy lifting on occasion.
• Experience in fish handling/husbandry is an asset.
• A valid driver’s license and the ability to drive a standard transmission vehicle would be preferred.
