The chemistry department seeks applications for a student assistant to aid department technicians perform a comprehensive inventory of all chemicals and re-label chemical bottles to be in compliance with new labelling regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lab assistant will:
• Be responsible for generating an accurate list of all chemicals
• Identifying labels which are not in compliance with new labelling requirements
• Generating compliant labels
• Transportation of chemicals between storage areas and laboratories. Re-organization of chemical storerooms
• Other duties as required by department technicians

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Applicants should have completed at minimum second year chemistry laboratories
• Have knowledge of safe chemical handling procedures
• Have strong work ethic and be self-starting with attention to fine detail
• A willingness to perform tedious work accurately
• Have proficient lab skills and be able to work safely with light supervision
• Students hired will be required to successfully complete an on-line WHIMIS course and attend a mandatory Site Safety Training session prior to starting work. This training will be offered the first day of work by supervisor
