The Department of Biomedical Sciences invites applications from suitably trained individuals for the technical support position of Laboratory Technician on a permanent .5 FTE basis. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide technical support to the professor’s research program
• Focus on a multi disciplinary approach incorporating molecular methods
• Diagnostic techniques and microbial (bacterial, parasitic and viral pathogens) and tissue culture
• Interaction and training of graduate and undergraduate students is expected
• Some travel and work with animal specimens (live and postmortem) may be required for the research activities of this position

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A minimum of Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent education and relevant practical experience
• Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in molecular biology techniques (microarray, RT-qPCR, standard PCR, QIAgility liquid handling robot)
• Experience in microscopy, toxicology, parasitology (protozoology & entomology), bacteriology, and viruses
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with molecular analysis is an asset
• Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills and evidence of ability to maintain effective interpersonal relations
