MTS Level 7 - Laboratory Technologist - Comparative Cancer Research - Department of Pathology and Microbiology - Atlantic Veterinary College
The Department of Pathology and Microbiology, Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island invites applications from qualified individuals to fill a half-time MTS-7 position in a cancer research laboratory. The lab uses molecular and histological approaches to study cancer progression and treatment strategies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Experience with molecular biology techniques and have demonstrated the ability to rapidly acquire new research skills
• Manage a containment level 2 (CL2) research laboratory
• Perform research utilizing molecular biology techniques including western blot and real-time RT-PCR
• Contribute to the training programs of undergraduate and graduate students
• Maintain cancer cell lines
• Perform in vitro experiments
• Involvement with lab organization
• Making reagents and maintaining project records. Additional responsibilities contribute to in vivo experiments including animal handling, participation in post-mortem examinations and performing immunohistochemistry
QUALIFICATIONS:
• A BSc or RT (Registered Technician) and five years of relevant laboratory experience (including experience with laboratory management, cell culture, western blot and real-time RT-PCR) are required
• The successful applicant will possess strong communication and organizational skills
• Highly motivated and be able to work independently
• Familiarity with computers (Microsoft Office)
• Comfortable working with students
