The Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island is seeking a highly qualified applicant for an 11 month research position to work in a laboratory focusing on immunological and nutrient assessment of biological samples using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The candidate will be the primary researcher and manager in the laboratory and will assist graduate students and technicians with all research issues from laboratory technical issues to manuscript development.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• The research scientist candidate must have a PhD and post-doctoral fellowship in chemistry or physics with specific course work and/or experience in spectroscopic analysis, preferably Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic analysis.
• Experience in a related field of diagnostic biomedical sample characterization such as discovery mass spectroscopy (MS), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), or liquid chromatography would also be considered an asset.
• Strong mathematical skills and experience or aptitude for applying and developing diagnostic classification and regression algorithms is important.
• Ideally, the candidate will have an understanding of basic immunological concepts.
• The candidate needs to have good people skills and must be able to work independently as a researcher.
• The candidate needs to have a strong interest, and preferably experience, in the commercial development of biotechnology and a willingness to collaborate with the industry partners.
