The Department of Student Affairs at the University of Prince Edward Island has an opening for a 50% Counsellor to join the team of professionals providing supports and services to our students.  This position will report to the Manager of Student Affairs.

The Department is home to a multidisciplinary team of professionals from a variety of fields along with several support staff.  We consider our various services as existing on a continuum of supports rather than as discrete entities.  In addition to intra-department collaboration, we pride ourselves on the success of joint efforts with other campus units as well as with the broader community.


• Core responsibilities will include the provision of short term counselling and advising services to students experiencing a variety of personal, academic and educational concerns. 
• Additional activities may include the delivery of group programs, outreach activities, crisis intervention, and consultations with faculty and staff.


• A degree at the Masters level in Counselling or Social Work along with the related professional designation and at least three years in a post secondary environment is required. 
• The successful candidate will possess skills and clinical experiences that will complement those of the current Counselling and Student Affairs staff. 
• The ideal candidate will possess a background working with university students experiencing such issues as depression, anxiety, relationship/family difficulties, academic challenges and decision-making, sexuality concerns, assault and substance abuse. 
• Formal training in the Myers Briggs Type Personality Inventory would be considered an asset.
• We seek an individual with well developed assessment, listening, observational, therapeutic counselling and interview skills with the flexibility to respond to the changing demands of this dynamic environment. 
• We value a demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
•  Previous experience in a university setting is preferred.
