The Biomedical Optics Research Group, Physics Department, requires a temporary, part-time Research Associate to operate, upgrade and characterize an optoacoustic imaging system. The successful candidate will function as a member of the research team in collecting, analyzing, and reporting on data, as well as collaborating with other research groups on various projects. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The research associate will assist with project duties related to the development of an integrated platform for optoacoustic imaging. Duties include:
• sourcing equipment, troubleshooting, and communicating with the developing company and other collaborators
• operation, maintenance and upgrade of an optoacoustic imaging system
• collaboration with other groups to design and plan research experiments
• performing signal analysis
• ordering materials
• establishing optimum parameters for imaging
• training students in the use of the optoacoustic imaging system
• comparing the data obtained from the optoacoustic imaging system to known imaging modalities, such as ultrasound and histology
• providing feedback on its use to the company that developed the system.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• a PhD in physics, biomedical imaging or a related field with research laboratory experience
• ability to work independently, unsupervised, as well as part of a team
• ability to trouble shoot problems, multi-task, pay close attention to detail, and perform critical analyses with a scientific approach are required.
• a working knowledge of Matlab would be considered a significant asset.
