ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF ADVANCEMENT
The Department of Advancement at UPEI exists to promote fruitful relationships across campus, the greater community, with donors, prospects, alumni and friends that will enhance the vision, mission, reputation, and resources of the University.
The Advancement team is responsible for a wide range of functions including raising more than $5 million per annum in support of student success. The Alumni Office within the Department of Advancement is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with former students across generations with a goal to engaging them with each other and the university in meaningful ways.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Department of Advancement is seeking a full-time summer student for the position of Student Writer to interview donors, write their stories, compile their content for print and web use, organize donor stories as well as develop content and update the Advancement website.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Donor Stories
- Develop strategy / plan with Advancement staff to collect donor stories
- Make contact with donors to arrange for interviews
- Write donor stories
- Work with the donors to ensure final drafts are approved
- Organize the stories in a section on the Department of Advancement Website
Website
- Working with Advancement staff, update and maintain website content
- Explore and implement digital and social media opportunities for Website
QUALIFICATIONS:
As a detail-oriented planner, the candidate will possess excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to implement project initiatives from start to finish. S/he will have previous and successful writing experience as well as knowledge of other forms of communication (i.e. web, social, and digital media). The candidate will be comfortable with making appointments and interviewing donors to develop their stories for publication in print or via the web.
