33.75 hours per week 

$41,806 to 45,999 per annum, as per CUPE 1870

The Robertson Library is seeking applications for a qualified individual to work under the general direction of the University Librarian, providing services to students, staff, and faculty of the University and the general public and providing support for ongoing and new digital initiatives. The applicant will be expected to demonstrate judgment, flexibility, and initiative.


Public service support including:
● Provide a welcoming, student-focused environment at the public service desk
● Assist library users in accessing and locating library resources
● Provide information/reference service both in-person and online via the Library’s virtual chat service
● Assists in giving tours and providing support for other outreach activities
● Circulate and check-in library resources, laptops, etc.
● Help train and supervise student assistants
● Other duties as required

Digital collections support including:
● Participate in a variety of digitization projects
● Safe handling and care of archival and other objects to be digitized
● Operate digitization equipment (book, flatbed, slide, microfilm and large format scanners, audio/video equipment) and maintain an organized work environment
● Q/A and process digitized content
● Describe digital objects and add them to our digital asset management system.
● Use internal ticketing system to track projects, tasks, and resources

Successful candidates will be expected to: work evening, weekend, and day shifts; implement library policies and directions set by the Library; positively contribute to the Library’s overall work environment and projects, and; work in cooperation with library colleagues.  Responsibilities will shift and alter as Library needs and demands change.


● A Library Technician Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience
● Bachelor's degree from a recognized post-secondary institution would be an asset
● Strong customer service orientation
● At least two years experience in an automated library environment
● An in-depth knowledge of bibliographic databases and strong searching skills
● The ability to work independently as well as within a team
● Strong commitment to enhancing service through teamwork and responsiveness to Library users
● Strong technology skills plus an open attitude towards new technology
● Experience with image editing software would be an asset
● Knowledge of metadata an asset
● Knowledge of Islandora and/or Drupal an asset
● Effective writing skills and proficiency with spreadsheet and word processing programs
● A flexible approach, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to effectively respond to issues
● The ability to perform some bending/lifting, and to safely handle/shelve heavy items
