The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) invites applications for the position of Project Manager to provide support to the Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Aquatic Epidemiology. The goal of the CERC program is to make UPEI and Canada the global leader in applied aquatic epidemiology research (with an ecosystem health focus). The CERC research team includes AVC faculty members, research scientists, post-doctoral fellows and graduate students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will provide project management support including budgetary, administrative and technical reporting requirements, and assist the CERC in strategic planning activities and delivery of research and outreach programs.

The successful candidate will be responsible to:
• Represent CERC as the initial contact point for outside persons and organizations including members of the CERC strategic advisory board
• Provide primary project support for CERC team members
• Maintain project budgets and accounts for CERC grants and projects as they arise, including preparation of annual budget, quarterly budget updates/projections, itemized statements of spending for CERC team members, and review of monthly credit card and expenditure reports to reconcile with hard-copy requisitions and purchase orders
• Manage the contract approval process from initiation to contract execution for members of the CERC group, liaising with UPEI’s administrative officials, industry and academic collaborators, and funding partners
• Track all contractual and personnel management deadlines and advise Principal Investigators of upcoming deadlines and arising issues
• Working with the CERC team members, compile and draft various scientific reports and information for review and submit approved reports
• Track contract progress and budgets with respect to project timelines and deliverables and prepare appropriate communications
• Work with UPEI’s Research Accounting Office to track ongoing grants and secured contributions from external funders, and flag any concerns to Principal Investigators
• Ensure expenses are recorded accurately and in a timely fashion
• Manage CERC human resource requirements such as assisting with the  recruitment process, liaising with appropriate resources for personnel issues
• Assist CERC team members to organize and execute CERC research and outreach activities
• Assist CERC team members to develop strategic priorities and implement these priorities, and their subsequent milestones and deliverables

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Candidates will hold a degree in business administration (BBA or MBA), and/or Project Management Institute certification, and have relevant years of experience in a project management role
• Familiarity with University accounting processes and website development and maintenance is desirable

The ideal candidate’s previous work experience will demonstrate:
• Excellent written, verbal and  inter-personal communication skills
• Capacity to manage schedules, budgets, procurement, bookkeeping, planning and reporting of complex projects
• Excellent organizational skills
• Excellent time management skills; experience with coordinating projects; e.g., tracking schedules and milestones, keeping accurate records, and reporting results
• Experience with budgets and book-keeping
• Demonstrated computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets applications, charts/graphs, basic web site maintenance, financial or budgeting programs
• Experience in collaborative scientific environments
