$40,305 to $44,337 per annum, as per CUPE 1870

The Procurement Services office invites applications from qualified individuals to provide Mail Room and Shipping/Receiving services for the UPEI campus. This position will be part of a combined Shipping/Receiving & Mail Room unit with assigned duties in both areas. The successful applicant will report to the Manager of Procurement Services, and be under the supervision of the Shipping/Receiving & Mail Services Supervisor.


The successful candidate will have responsibilities in Mail Services as well as Shipping/ Receiving.

Mail Services:
• Receiving, sorting, and distribution of all mail for UPEI campus via postal mail boxes and a specified mail route on campus.
• Receiving and posting all outgoing mail via Pitney Bowes post meter, including registered mail, mail courier and special deliveries.
• Providing detailed accounting for all postal transactions.

Shipping/Receiving Services:
• Regularly scheduled weekly shifts in the Shipping/Receiving area.
• Perform all duties of S/R clerk including: receive and process all incoming goods at central receiving as per various responsibilities.
• Process and ship all outgoing goods with duties such as preparing computerized documents; assist and advise campus staff on proper packing & labeling procedures and best-ship method options.
• Ensure dangerous goods are properly labeled, categorized and packaged according to Federal Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG & IATA) regulations.
• Ensure shipping authorization form is complete including allocation of charges and proper signing authority.
• Operation of loading dock equipment.
• Moderate & constant lifting.
• Other duties and responsibilities applicable to both Mail and Shipping/Receiving functions, including data input and asset tagging for campus inventory control.


• Minimum Grade 12 education plus 2 years post-secondary.
• Relative clerical training and minimum two (2) years progressive related work experience in Mail and Shipping/Receiving environments; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Must have basic computer skills, experience and ability to navigate 3rd party softwares.
• Excellent customer service skills, including initiative, flexibility, problem solving and follow thru.
• Organizational abilities.
• Ability to work independently and with others.
• Effective interpersonal, oral and written skills.
• Good knowledge of the campus environment.
• Current certification in TDG - Transportation of Dangerous Goods - for land and air shipments or ability to acquire the same.
• Good physical condition.
• Must have vehicle for off-campus mail deliveries.
• Incumbent must be bondable.
