The Webster Centre requires a Coordinator of Accessibility Services to oversee disability support services including accommodations for undergraduate and graduate students who need accommodations. The Coordinator will be an advocate for all students but be particularly aware of students with disabilities and accessibility needs. The coordinator will ensure all students, staff and faculty have equal access to all programs, services and activities at UPEI.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will:
• Meet with individual students and their families to identify student needs;
• develop individualized accommodation plans for students with disabilities;
• review and interpret psycho-educational and other professional documentation as related to a successful university experience;
• ensure the implementation of individualized student program plans;
• liaise with faculty, staff and other campus offices regarding the implementation of student accommodations;
• assist students in gaining financial support of the Canada Study Grant and other bursaries surrounding accessibility.
• refer students to other campus resources and/or the community for assessments and other services;
• Advocate, Advise and Support for students;
• provide screening assessments for learning disabilities and other accessibility isues;
• maintain associations with community agency groups who provide services for people with disabilities;
• increase awareness of the needs and potential contributions of students with disabilities among students, faculty and staff;
• provide educational workshops for faculty and staff at UPEI regarding accessibility issues
• chair the campus wide Access-Ability committee and work with other university departments to implement the long-term plan to enhance UPEI accessibility;
• conduct evaluation of the recommended strategies on student success and accessibility;
• hire, train and supervise the work of staff and student assistants;
• maintain confidential case records, relevant statistical data and required reporting information; and
• perform other responsibilities as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will possess the following:
• MEd in (preferably) Inclusive Education - with a minimum of 2 years professional experience in educational program development for individuals with physical, sensory, learning, psychological and other disabilities;
• Experience with overseeing the implementation of individual student program plans, reading and interpreting psycho-educational assessments and other professional documentation as related to successful student learning;
• Experience in administering and interpreting screening assessments for learning disabilities and experience with recent adaptive technology as an academic accommodation;
• Experience in dealing with various disability and accommodation issues;
• Demonstrated community involvement and knowledge of disability services in the community;
• Demonstrated leadership in establishing and maintaining client services;
• Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills, organizational and record-keeping skills; and
• Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
