The AVC Lobster Science Centre and Department of Biomedical Sciences invites applications from suitably trained individual for the technical support position of Laboratory Technician on a temporary half time basis.  This is a grant funded position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The individual will be responsible to senior laboratory personnel of the AVC Lobster Science Centre and will provide technical support to the research programs of the Centre. The focus will be on a multi disciplinary approach incorporating molecular methods, diagnostic techniques and microbial (bacterial, parasitic and viral pathogens) and tissue culture. Interaction and training of graduate and undergraduate students is expected. Some travel and work with live animal specimens may be required for the research activities of this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Qualifications include a minimum of Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent education and relevant practical experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in molecular biology techniques (microarray, RT-qPCR, standard PCR, QIAgility liquid handling robot) is required. 
• Experience in toxicology, parasitology (protozoology & entomology), bacteriology, and viruses are required. Basic computer skills and familiarity with molecular analysis is an asset.
• Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills and evidence of ability to maintain effective interpersonal relations.
