The Department of Biomedical Sciences is seeking applications for a temporary undergraduate student research assistant position. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• The position is required to work in a laboratory to conduct microelectrode studies of the electrical activity of zebrafish hearts, before and after exposure to environmental toxicants and autonomic nervous system neurotransmitters
• The project requires the preparation of perfusion and drug solutions and microelectrodes, in addition to data acquisition and analysis using a custom computer-based system

QUALIFICATIONS:

• The student must have a strong undergraduate background in biology and chemistry
• Additional expertise in cardiac or neural electrophysiology and in the behavior of non-linear dynamical systems would be an asset
• Laboratory experience also would be an asset, but is not required
• Other qualifications include a very strong work ethic, attention to detail and the ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
• Strong references demonstrating these skills are required
