$21.00 per hour (vacation pay included) (off scale CUPE 1870)

Commencing August 11, 2014 for 21 weeks (Term may be reduced or extended depending on performance, available funding and departmental requirements)


• The research developer will create a working prototype of a micro-work system that allows hundreds of workers to perform small tasks in exchange for micro-payments.
• The project will involve identifying a workflow to simplify more complex tasks into smaller pieces that can be accomplished by hundreds of online workers via a crowdsourcing service.
• The workflow will be translated into a web application that interfaces with the Crowd Flower platform.
• This project will be based in the Dept. of Computer Science at UPEI under the supervision of Dr. Scott Bateman, and is in collaboration with nGauge Inc. (Moncton, NB).

• The successful candidate should have completed at least a BSc. degree in Computer Science and would benefit from some background in psychology, sociology, and/or business.
• The developer must be willing to work independently, to proactively research best practices and alternative approaches, to keep track of their work activities, to present their work to members of the research team, and be able to work well in a team.
• All interested candidates are encouraged to apply, but priority may be given to those with experience in crowdsourcing technology and web development.
• Knowledge or skills of HTML, JavaScript, Node.js, and Linux would be considered assets.
