 The Tourism Research Centre (TRC), housed in the School of Business Administration on the UPEI campus, is an independent body providing timely, accurate and professional research on the tourism industry. From January 2014 to June 30, 2014, the TRC requires a vibrant individual who will serve as a Special Project Research Assistant. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Special Project Research Assistant will assist the TRC with distribution of the PEI visitor exit survey, a survey used to profile visitors to PEI. The majority of the work will take place at the Charlottetown Airport where the individual will speak to non-resident departing guests and provide them with a survey package. The Research Assistant may also be involved in similar field work at events that are part of the PEI 2014 celebrations. The schedule will vary from week to week, but 15-30 hours of work per week are expected depending on the departing flight schedule. Early morning, day, evening and weekend shifts will be required. The successful candidate must be extremely comfortable approaching strangers, reliable, and have strong verbal communication skills. The successful candidate will be expected to keep a daily log of work and be able to reach a monthly quota of survey distributions. Conversational French would be an asset. The candidate will be expected to provide his or her own transportation to the Charlottetown Airport. Mileage will be provided for any work taking place outside of the Charlottetown area. QUALIFICATIONS: • Comfortable working with the public and approaching strangers • Ability to work with minimal supervision • Excellent communication skills • Record management skills for tracking daily work • Initiative to meet monthly quotas • Access to a vehicle • Research experience, in particular in field work/data collection would be an asset • Conversational French would be a strong asset; any other languages would also be an asset.
