The Department of Biology at the University of Prince Edward Island has an opening for a Sessional Lecturer to teach Bio 3660-Plant-Animal Interactions during the academic year 2017-18.  This is a two-week intensive course held Monday to Friday, August 21 – September 1, 2017; lectures are held from 9:00 – 12:00 p.m. and labs from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. Individuals qualified to teach the following course are encouraged to apply. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

This course examines evolutionary and ecological themes in plant-animal interactions by presenting some of the complex interactions that have arisen between plants and animals. The course will consist of lectures on various topics such as plant communities as animal habitats, pollination and seed dispersal by animal, ant and plant interactions, insect herbivore and host-plant interactions, seed predation, and carnivorous plants and insects, and the pivotal role of plant-animal interactions in conservation biology. The course requires presentations and discussions of the primary literature, and includes some laboratory and field projects.

Applicants must hold a M.Sc. or Ph.D. in a field of science/biology related to the respective course content.  Documented experience teaching this course, or other similar ecology courses would be a definite asset.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster, and to those with experience in teaching university level courses.
