The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications from qualified individuals for a research scientist position (pending budget approval) as a senior medicinal and synthetic chemist.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent will conduct experiments in the design, synthesis and testing of novel chemical entities (NCEs) for use in neurodegenerative, cardiovascular and metabolic disorders. The incumbent will be expected to conduct research with emphasis on the development and validation of methods for synthesis of NCEs and testing in animal models of the disease states mentioned above. The successful applicant will be responsible for the design, execution, and basic interpretation of various techniques. The person will be responsible for animal study, administration of test materials, sample collection, storage and analysis, data analysis and basic interpretation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• PhD degree in synthetic chemistry and or medicinal chemistry with a minimum of 5 years of experience in drug design and synthesis as a medicinal chemist in the pharmaceutical industry setting will be considered an asset.
• Minimum five years of experience in gas chromatography (GC) and/or high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)
• Experience in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is an asset.
• Experience in analytical method development
• Knowledge and experience in pharmaceutical drug design is an asset.
• Knowledge and skills in analytical chemistry
• Knowledge and skills in gas chromatography (GC) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), LC-MS and NMR
• Knowledge and skills in analytical method development
• Knowledge of Bioassay screening of NCEs
• Organizational skills
• Troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
