$50,347 to $55,378 per annum, prorated to time and term as per CUPE 1870 (Grant Funded)

The Department of Biomedical Science and the Atlantic Centre for Comparative and Biomedical Research invite applications for the position of a Neuroscience Research Technician, funded by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research and Innovation PEI. This is a 3 year position, beginning immediately, and may be renewable subject to grant funding and satisfactory review.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• The successful candidate will provide laboratory and related services for various protocols and general operations in a research environment focused on neurodegenerative disorders
• The project involves the study of neurodegeneration and cognitive function in a novel rodent model of Parkinson’s disease
• The incumbent will work closely with the principal investigator in delivery of the research project, "Development of a Novel Progressive Rat Model of Parkinson's Disease"
• Tasks will involve, but are not limited to, rodent surgery and care, cognitive testing, necropsy, histology, imaging, and general laboratory administration

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum, a BSc., majoring in Biology, Psychology, Neuroscience, or related field
• Experience in histology, rodent behaviour, and/or microscopy is essential
• Must be proficient with computer software packages, e.g., word processing, spreadsheets
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and as a member of a team
• Ability to learn and adapt to new techniques
