The PEI Strategies for Patient Oriented Research (SPOR) – Primary and Integrated Health Care Innovation Network (Network) will create the infrastructure for a learning/knowledge network in primary health care that will address patient oriented issues across the lifespan (i.e. child, adult, seniors). Led by a tripartite leadership team that spans the dimensions of policy, research, and clinical application, our vision is to create a vibrant and productive patient oriented research community in PEI that is linked regionally and nationally to deliver more integrated, cost-effective primary and integrated health care that leads to improved health outcomes for Islanders. Utilizing a collaborative approach to engage our partners, we will focus on innovative evidence-based initiatives that promote efficient and effective care to meet today’s challenges.

The ideal candidate will be motivated by the challenge to develop a unique patient oriented research network in PEI, partnering with the other Atlantic Canada networks, as well as networks throughout Canada when appropriate.

This specific project will include a first step in developing sensor technology to assess impact forces in boxing and related physical contact activities which may include but are not limited to sports such as ice hockey, football, rugby and basketball as examples. The individual chosen for this project will develop a protocol for the apparatus and additionally test its reliability and validity. This candidate alongside a team will fine tune assessment and propose a future plan for ongoing research in this area.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties:
• Assist the Principal Investigator to develop  and to test protocols for instrumentation of equipment related to impact forces
• Test the reliability and validity of  methods developed
• Organize and analyze quantitative data
• Collaborate with research team and community partners to complete a final report
• Assist the Principal Investigator to prepare ethics applications and amendments
• Review literature related to this project and become familiar with other tests and concussion recovery

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Have an excellent level of research, writing, and analytical skills
• Enrolled in undergraduate program at UPEI or recently completed an undergraduate degree at UPEI
• Proven ability to write research reports
• Work analytically
• Familiarity with human health and be able to relate to patients and team members
• Be able to dynamically alter plans in accordance to new findings
