The Department of Student Affairs at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a Personal/Academic Counsellor.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Core responsibilities for the position will include:

• Provision of short term counselling and advising services to students
• Design and delivery of various mental health and personal development initiatives and outreach activities for our student population.
• Active participation in the campus community is also required

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A degree at the Masters level in Educational Counselling, or related discipline, with specific expertise in counselling students in post-secondary education is required
• Candidate must have, or be in the process of receiving,  the Canadian Certified Counsellor designation (CCC)
• The ideal candidate will possess a background working with university students in educational development and planning
• Crisis response training and experience would be valuable to this position  
• Skills in triage and effective referrals to community resources and managing consultation with medical and psychiatric resources are essential
• Experience working with a diverse student population reflecting the reality of today’s campus, including issues of culture, gender, orientation, and equity would be a definite asset
