Reporting to the Comptroller, the Risk Management Officer will support the operational risk management needs of the University.  This position is responsible for supporting the contract development process for various areas of the University, oversight for the University insurance policies and processes; and supporting the processes related to Board of Governor’s policies and procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Contract Process Support

Support and continually improve the business process related to the University contract processes, including:
• Pre-review of contracts to provide advice to those who initiate the contracts.
• Establishing and monitoring best practices for contract development and approval including reviewing Fee for Service Contracts, Service Contracts, Secondment Contracts, MOUs and other university contracts
• Create materials, tools and resources for creating awareness of contract administration requirements.
• Create and monitor a tracking system for contract expiry dates and renewals.
• Maintain contract information and FAQ’s on UPEI Comptroller’s website.
• Work closely with other Comptroller’s Office staff in supporting efficient review and processing of contracts.

Commercial Insurance Oversight

Provide oversight of the University’s commercial insurance portfolio, including:

• Annual reporting and asset review as required by insurance providers.
• Provide advice to University community on insurance coverage for various activities.
• Develop processes for the effective oversight of the claims management function.
• Liaise with various insurance providers regarding new or changing insurance needs.

Policy Development and Oversight

Provide support to all processes related to the development and maintenance of Official University Policy, including:

• Develop, revise, amend and review Official University Policy
• Coordinate the review and development of University Policy with various levels of Management.
• Ensure policy is vetted by the appropriate University faculty and staff and when required is presented to legal for review.
• Complete appropriate research related to current policies and practices at other similar institutions.
• Provide regular updates to the University community relating to new or changes policies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and 2-3 years’ experience in Insurance, Contract Management or Policy Development. A Bachelor of Law degree would be an asset, but is not required.
• Demonstrate the ability to work independently.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the theories, principles and practices of contract law, indemnity, waivers and contract management.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
• Must demonstrate strong problem solving skills and the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
• Must have experience interacting with various levels of a large organization.
