The University of Prince Edward Island is looking for the right candidate to take on an exciting term position of “Laboratory Technician” in the School of Sustainable Design Engineering. Reporting to the Manager of Industry Research, this individual would be responsible for the setup, instruction and supervision related to the laboratory components of engineering science courses. This individual would interact with students, academic staff and other technical and administrative staff on a daily basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Setup of laboratory experiments for engineering science courses
• Provide instruction, design and prepare course material, and assist in the preparation and grading of work related to the laboratory components of engineering science courses
• Tutor and counsel students with experimental procedures and practices, data collection and preparation of lab reports
• Train and supervise students using lab equipment, computers and facilities
• Maintain a safe working environment
• Maintain, repair and calibrate equipment
• Keep an up-to-date inventory of all equipment, materials and supplies

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Two-year community college diploma in a relevant engineering technology field
• Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience
• Excellent communication and problem solving skills
• Experience in a laboratory environment
• Demonstrated creative, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to multi-task, coordinate projects and function professionally in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment
• Excellent computer skills
