Reporting to the Comptroller, the Manager, Accounting Office will have managerial and supervisory responsibility for a staff of 14 individuals, UPEI’s fully computerized accounting system and the operations of the Accounting Office, including budgets and staffing related activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Supervision of Accounting Office staff.
• Management of the Accounting Office.
• Enforcement of departmental or other budgets.
• Approval of expenditures based on budgets or other authorities.
• Liaison in accounting matters internally and externally.
• Provides financial reports and analyses
• Assists in the external audit of the University.
• Financial administration of the University’s research fund accounts.
• Financial administration of award and endowment accounts. 
• Systems and procedures development.
• Interprets tax legislation in the post-secondary education sector.
• Oversight in tax application at a department level as well as the University as a whole entity.
• Committee work.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Strong accounting background.
• Business degree with an accounting designation (CPA)
• Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a university or similar setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience and skills in managing a number of staff at one time.
• Detailed knowledge of and experience in working with computerized accounting systems, spreadsheets and database software.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
