 The Canadian Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Aquatic Epidemiology at the Atlantic Veterinary College of UPEI is seeking an E-Learning / Instructional Designer to develop and co-ordinate online training educational products for the CERC program. The goal of the CERC program is to make UPEI and Canada the global leader in applied aquatic epidemiology research (with an ecosystem health focus). The successful applicants will join a multi-disciplinary team of epidemiologists, statisticians, finfish, crustacean and mollusk clinicians, ecosystem health and regulatory veterinary medicine specialists whose work focuses on holistic approaches to assist the Canadian and international aquaculture industries improve productivity, sustainability and health of aquatic food animal stocks. The successful person will assist CERC team members and their collaborators worldwide by consulting in the design, development and delivery of online education and training courses. The position is both a technical support position to faculty and researchers already committed to working in an online environment and a training resource position to support integration of digital technologies in learning and research for faculty and researchers. The successful candidate will possess a portfolio of employment experiences demonstrating the blend of technical expertise, educational or training delivery experience and people skills required to provide support to a diverse professional community. RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific duties include: ● Providing consultation and support for faculty and researchers in e-learning and online courses related to aquatic epidemiology and aquatic animal health; ● Mentoring faculty on a one-to-one basis to support course design and adoption/integration of digital technologies in teaching and training; ● Conducting workshops face-to-face and online; ● Creating guidelines, training tools and learning resources to support faculty designing online and/or blended courses; ● Providing instructional design services; ● Researching and sharing with faculty, researchers and graduate students current trends in integration of digital technologies in teaching and learning in the context of aquatic animal health and veterinary practice. QUALIFICATIONS: We are seeking a person with: ● A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in an area related to online instructional design; ● Experience working in an online instructional environment, preferably within a university or college setting; ● Experience with course management systems and online/distance learning delivery; ● Knowledge of instructional design and pedagogical practices for online and blended learning; ● Ability to conduct training and provide support to faculty face-to-face and at a distance; ● Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communications skills; cross-cultural experience and familiarity with global communication networks would be assets; ● Ability to prioritize, organize and manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision; ● Experience with tracking progress in online learning; ● Ability to work independently and to prioritize, organize and manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision; ● Awareness of and experience with social media technologies; ● Competencies in Moodle, Wordpress, Drupal, Google Apps, Blackboard and similar platforms; ● Competencies with various sound and video editing programs would be an asset.
