EAP is a non-credit program that supports students who speak English as an additional language to reach the English proficiency required for university admission. Details may be viewed at http://www.upei.ca/studentlife/english-academic-preparation

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working closely with the EAP Program Coordinator, the Assistant Coordinator will teach English language classes at the first-year university level (50%) and assist with administration, student advisement, and other duties as assigned (50%), including:
• Teaching ESL and academic English (speaking, reading, writing, and listening) from high beginner to advanced proficiency level
• Formative and summative evaluation
• Resource development and  planning
• Curriculum and course outcome evaluation and revision
• Participation in staff meetings and professional development
• Possibly teaching late afternoon or evening courses
• Student assistance, course advising and student practicum supervision
• Collaborate with UPEI staff to organize student focused extra-curricular events
• Upholding the policies and regulations of the EAP program
• Other duties as assigned by the Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor of Education degree, ESL teaching certificate & experience, or adult ESL teaching experience in combination with a relevant degree
• A Master of Education or  Applied Linguistics would be an asset
• Must demonstrate excellent English proficiency and competence with Moodle or related course management systems
• Experience in teaching academic writing, intercultural education, and familiarity with UPEI an asset
