The Athletics & Recreation Department and the Faculty of Education are seeking a motivated team member who will organize a high quality French day camp. The camp’s mission is to promote and enhance French language, to build positive relationships and ensure the safety and well-being of every child attending the camp.
The successful candidate(s) for this position will spend the first four weeks developing the camp curriculum and then the remainder of the term working as a Head Counselor.

Day camps are offered to children currently in Kindergarten to Grade 6.  Our camps provide the opportunity for campers to learn in a safe and fun environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES - CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT SPECIALIST: (1 Position)

The Curriculum Development Specialist will
• Prepare an inventory of all supplies needed for the weekly camps
• Actively participate in planning the weekly program schedules for all activities for each camp monitor
• Meet with the camp counselor to explain the programming and seek input from them to enhance the program
• Work hand in hand with the coordinator of the Panther Academy Camps to make sure the schedule does not conflict with the other camps offered
• Working with the camp counselors revises curricular materials that best fit the needs of every child attending the camp

RESPONSIBILITIES – HEAD COUNSELOR: (4 Positions)

Under the guidance of the Camp Coordinators, the Head Counselor will:
• Provide mentoring to new staff and support during staff training
• Be responsible for the supervision of campers
• Conduct themselves and their work in an enjoyable, presentable and professional manner
• Have effective behavioral skills and be prepared to deal with various behavioral issues
• Perform duties without direct supervision
• Be responsible for submitting daily reports to the Programs Coordinator
• Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Priority will be given to UPEI  graduates of the Bachelor of Education (français langue seconde) program or students who belong to the Pre-BEd (French) Learning Community.  Priority will also be given to students in accordance with the Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and Procedures Manual who possess the following:

• An excellent proficiency in French
• Previous experience working with children or working in a camp setting (a background in engineering/sciences would be considered an asset)
• Previous experience developing or leading educational programming for children and knowledge of gym/outdoor games and activities
• Ability to communicate and be assertive, enthusiastic, outgoing, friendly and courteous
• Ability to relate positively to staff, campers and parents
• Adapt easily to unexpected circumstances and additional duties
• Minimum of one year post-secondary education is required
• Criminal Record Check upon hiring
