 The Tourism Research Centre (TRC) at the University of Prince Edward Island seeks applications for the position of Research Coordinator. This is a contract position until June 30th, 2014 with expected extension. The TRC’s purpose is to expand the research capacity of UPEI and the tourism industry on PEI. The objective is to grow the TRC into a centre of excellence for tourism research regionally, nationally and internationally. This will be a primary goal of the successful applicant. Reporting to the Faculty Advisor (Dean of the School of Business or the Faculty Director of the TRC), the Research Coordinator will have primary responsibility for the operational management of the TRC and will serve as the primary contact in this respect for the Centre both internally and externally. The ideal candidate will be motivated by the entrepreneurial challenge of helping to further develop this unique research centre. The successful candidate will be a strategic and innovative thinker and experienced manager with excellent organizational and communication skills. Previous applicants need not apply. RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties: • Manage the ongoing work to be completed by the TRC and its staff including tracking research progress with respect to milestones. • Coordinating projects with members of the research team and facilitating interaction and communications among staff, sponsors, and clients. • Build awareness and demonstrate the value of the TRC to stakeholders and clients. • Liaise and network with key stakeholders in the tourism industry and government and represent the TRC in interactions with various industry committees and government departments. • Be familiar with contractual agreements and ensure requirements are met. • Manage the budget, prepare analysis and forecasts. • Work closely with the Faculty Advisor, Advisory Council, and the staff to plan the ongoing work of the TRC. • Provide funders and the Advisory Council with regular updates on the status of agreements. • Identify opportunities for funding or collaboration and liaise with industry and potential partners to ensure the TRC is sustainable. • Participate in HR matters and prepare all required paperwork. • Promote the TRC through communications, presentations and events. • Initiate, direct, and conduct tourism research studies and oversee generation of reports of the results. • Design and develop market surveys and use survey findings to develop actionable recommendations for various industry stakeholders. QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have as a minimum a Bachelor degree plus significant management and research experience and/or a combination of relevant education and experience. The successful candidate must have the following skills: • A self-starter with the ability to work independently. • Minimum 3 years experience in coordinating projects; e.g., tracking schedules and milestones. • Excellent time management, organizational, and communication skills, both verbal and written. • Excellent interpersonal skills and supervisory experience. • Demonstration of leadership, strategic planning and execution skills. • Demonstrated success in developing and managing client relationships. • Proven record of creating and implementing organizational visions. • Experience in business plan development and budget management. • Ability to work with others in a cooperative and collaborative manner. • Ability to convey information and ideas, both verbally and written, in a manner that engages people and enables them to understand, retain, and respond to issues. • Ability to draw comprehensive conclusions from raw research data. • Ability to assess difficult situations and make timely, effective decisions based upon analysis, consultation, experience, and judgement.
