The Department of History invites applications for the position of Sessional Instructor to teach History 3090 – 3 in the Fall Session of 2017. This appointment is subject to final budgetary approval.

History 3090-3: Special Topics: Hockey, History, and Canadian Identity (Cross-list with Canadian Studies as CST 3090)

This course will examine Canadian identity through the lens of its national winter sport. Beginning with an examination of the sport’s contested origins in the 19th century and continuing through the 20th century, the course will explore issues and concepts such as hockey’s relationship with race, culture, language, gender, and violence, the evolution of hockey as a business, as well as the impact of its internationalization.

Qualifications:
Successful applicants should have a minimum of a Master’s degree in Canadian History or Canadian Studies, and teaching and/or research experience in the field of Canadian social and cultural history and/or the history of hockey from a social history perspective.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster in the academic unit.
