$51,000 to $56,200 per annum, prorated to term as per CUPE 1870

The Department of Computer Science & Information Technology invites applications for a term position as a research assistant. This is a 22 week position starting Nov. 18, 2013 or when applied for funding becomes available.
This position is dependent upon applied for funding being approved.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidates will lead the development of a real-time digital video processing and distribution system. Specific duties will include, but are not limited to:
• Research and empirical analysis of existing technologies related to wireless communication and video compression
• Identifying limitations and trade-offs in performance and cost imposed by contemporary technology

• Designing the system's hardware configuration
• Designing and implementing video processing and compression software
• Designing and implementing mobile client application software
• Interaction with industrial partners
• Contributing to the writing of technical reports and research papers
• Formal presentation of experimental results when required

QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will possess:
• BSc in computer science
• Specific training and/or experience in the development of software for real-time video processing and network communications, and of mobile applications
• Experience with software project management, audio-visual equipment, multi-threaded software development, GPU-based processing and/or embedded systems development would be an asset.
• Excellent communication (written/oral) skills
• Demonstrated motivation and enthusiasm
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
