The Faculty of Education at the University of Prince Edward Island has openings for sessional instructors to teach the following course in a multi-semester format.

Please note that this course includes six hours of a pre-course reading/assignment, as well as 30 hours of face-to-face instruction. This course will be co-taught with another instructor. If you wish to co-submit with another person, please do so. Co-submission, however, is not required.

The instructors will be asked to work closely with the UPEI Academic Lead in preparation for the course.  This includes pre-course conference calls &/or orientation and a debriefing conference call at the end of the course. All course preparation will need to be completed two months before the start date of the course.  Depending on availability of flights and potential pre and post-course instructor meetings, the time spent physically present in the pertinent Nunavut community will include a few days before and after the course dates.

ED 5140 REFLECTIVE PRACTICE IN EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP FOR NUNAVUT (2 SECTIONS)

Participants propose, develop, and implement an approved reflective inquiry project based on their own educational practice.

This is a three-semester hour course offered in English using a blended format over multiple semesters. The course will begin with a 1 day in-person workshop in Clyde River, Nunavut, on August 3, and will then switch to an on-line format during the student project stages (until December 19). The course ends with another in-person workshop between February16 and February 21, in either Clyde River or Resolute Bay, Nunavut.

Qualifications:

Ideal candidates will have completed the Certificate in Educational Leadership in Nunavut (CELN) program or the Educational Leadership Program; possess recent, successful teaching and leadership experience within the K-12 system in Nunavut; and have experience speaking and teaching in Inuktut. An understanding of Inuit education and recent legislation, collective agreements, code of ethics and values, and policies and curricula guiding school programs in Nunavut is required.

Applicants will normally possess a graduate degree in education with a focus on Inuit educational leadership.  A high level of expertise related to the literature and scholarship in both action research and educational leadership in Nunavut, a comprehensive understanding of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit as it is applied in light of recent educational legislation and policy in Nunavut, and the ability to teach comfortably in a bilingual (Inuktut/English) teaching environment with Inuit graduate students are required.

In all instances, qualified applicants on the UPEI Sessional Roster of the Faculty of Education will be given priority.

The offering of these courses is conditional on final enrolment numbers, and the dates and Nunavut locations are currently considered tentative. All sessional courses are subject to the final budgetary and administrative approval.
