The Vice President Administration and Finance at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for the position of Director of Operations.

The Director of Operations leads numerous projects and functions in the office of the Vice President Administration and Finance that support the strategic mission of that office.  Functional areas of responsibility include administration, infrastructure, marketing and integrated communications and stakeholder engagement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and guide the implementation of a communications strategy for the portfolio consistent with the University's strategic plan
• Partner with leaders to identify opportunities for the University which promote relationships with key stakeholder groups, accomplishments and new initiatives
• Ensure marketing and communications objectives have the strong support of key internal and external stakeholders, to build a consistent and coordinated message to the University's various communities
• Assist in the accomplishment of the portfolio’s short, medium and long range planning initiatives
• Develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders
• Participate and represent the Vice President on numerous committees, groups and taskforces
• In collaboration with the Vice President, effectively communicate the vision of the Office while coordinating resources, advancing priorities, building commitment and ensuring effective execution on key integration projects
• Develop, implement and modify policies, procedures and programs under the purview of the Office
• Monitor the VP Finance and Administration budget in conjunction with Financial Services
• In association with the Vice President, review operational budgets and liaise with functional leaders to ensure rationales for requests are received and business plans are submitted if required
• Foster the development of management practices and a work culture with a focus on operational excellence and continuous improvement across all operations and services
• Provide analysis, research and advice to the Vice President for initiatives and projects to determine feasibility, operational requirements and congruence with portfolio mission and targets
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.  A Master’s degree would be considered an asset
• A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a related position in a university, governmental or other large organization
• Demonstrated judgement, analysis and decision-making skills in dealing with highly sensitive and confidential matters
• Demonstrated organizational, analytical and problem-solving abilities with superior attention to detail
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and report-writing are necessary
• Ability to determine priorities, respond effectively to changes and meet deadlines
• Demonstrated communication, customer service, interpersonal and organizational skills with ability to exercise tact and discretion
• Proven ability to scope, plan and execute project-based initiatives including research and analysis
• Strong leadership skills with emphasis on decision-making, problem solving and the ability to foster a motivating and respectful environment
