The Department of Religious Studies at the University of Prince Edward Island invites applications to teach the following course during the Winter 2018 Semester. This appointment is subject to final budgetary approval.

RELIGIOUS STUDIES 388 - (On-line)
Special Topics: Religion and the Politics of Sex and Race

This course examines historical and contemporary intersections of religion, politics and human rights, focusing on debates surrounding race, gender, and sexuality.  The course addresses the following questions:  How do we understand the ways 'religion', 'faith', and/or 'spirituality' intersect with social justice, social movements, oppression and emancipation, and politics generally? How should liberal democracies deal respectfully with differences regarding gender, sexuality, faith, and family; and what role, if any, should human rights play?

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a M.A. in a relevant field and a Ph.D is strongly preferred.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates with seniority on the UPEI Sessional Roster in the academic unit.
