The Diagnostic Services Department of the Atlantic Veterinary College is seeking applications from interested DVM students to work as a Student Assistants in Diagnostic Bacteriology.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Receiving and preparation of specimens for culture; primary culture of specimens
• Transferring culture plates
• Subculturing and inoculating of biochemicals using aseptic techniques under the supervision of a laboratory technologist
• Assisting with bacterial identifications and antimicrobial susceptibility testing under the supervision of a laboratory technologist
• Laboratory and clerical duties as required
• The job entails working with fresh animal tissue

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Preference will be given to students who have completed second year of the DVM program or who have relevant bacteriology experience.
• The successful applicant will be required to work on both Saturday and Sunday (approx 5 hours total).
• Familiarity with computer programs would be an asset.
