Researchers at UPEI are investigating the impact of a novel natural product on human health. They are seeking a highly motivated, adaptable Project Manager to assist with project plan development and oversight.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Principal Investigators, the successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties:

Project Plan Development, Tracking & Reporting

• Lead in the development of the project plan according to the scope of the approved statement of work, schedule and budget
• Track and monitor project progress and report both verbally and in writing to internal and external stakeholders on a regular basis and as required
• Communicate arising issues and facilitate issue and/or risk mitigation sessions among team members
• Initiate a change management process for any changes in scope, schedule, or budget in accordance with the approved statement of work
• Facilitate regular team and stakeholder progress meetings, assist with organizing strategic planning activities, and minute and distribute notes and action items

Budgets & Finance

• Prepare budgets and track expenditures
• Purchase required supplies and equipment and ensure purchasing follows UPEI’s procurement policy and procedures
• Record expenditures in UPEI’s accounting system in a timely manner
• Provide financial reports as required
• Review financial claims for accuracy prior to approval and liaise with Research Accounting on financial and account issues

Contracts

• Liaise with UPEI’s Risk Officers, Research Services and Synapse to draft and finalize contracts and amendments
• Manage contract approval process from initiation to execution
• Ensure contract compliance
• Assist with the completion of administrative approval forms and ethics/biosafety submissions 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates require a degree in the biological or health sciences or related field and have two years relevant experience in project management, and/or clinical/biomedical research.

The following would be considered assets:
• Familiarity with University processes and policies
• Graduate degree in a relevant field
• Clinical work/biomedical research experience
• Experience related to ethics, biosafety and clinical trial applications

The ideal candidate’s previous work experience will demonstrate:
• Experience with managing multiple projects; e.g., planning projects, managing and tracking schedules and milestones, keeping accurate records, preparing and reporting on budgets, expenditures, and budget forecasts, as well as procurement & contracts
• Experience working in a research environment
• Experience in collaborative, multi-partner environments
• Excellent written, verbal and inter-personal communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills and time management skills
• Demonstrated computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and accounting software
