UPEI is embarking on the implementation of a new administration system to provide increased functionality for students, faculty and staff.  As part of this project the university is seeking an experienced Systems/Database Administrator to ensure the successful implementation and ongoing support of the Ellucian Colleague System. 

The systems administrator role is one of the most critical positions on the project and is responsible for the setup and ongoing maintenance of the Colleague system application and underlying database. They will supervise and operate the organization’s Ellucian Colleague systems through implementation best practices. This includes installing, configuring, patching, upgrading, and maintaining the company’s investments in proprietary Ellucian Colleague technologies. They will also be responsible for planning and coordinating the change management of processes required for the support of Ellucian Colleague systems necessary for business operations. This individual will apply proven communication and problem-solving skills to solve issues related to the deployment of mission-critical Ellucian Colleague software.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working as part of the Project Team, the systems administrator position interfaces with the implementation team leaders and is responsible for such things as learning to use Ellucian’s software delivery and release systems, as well as system backups. The most critical duties for this position are application and database installations and upgrades, account maintenance, user account access, and security setup.

Duties include:

● Production control activities with regards to job scheduling, setup, and background process reporting.
● Application and database tuning, storage management, and user account management.
● Installs Colleague releases; and provides system back-ups, restores, and related system maintenance.
● System and Database maintenance and including performance tuning, security and disaster recovery.
● Responsible for maintaining all data dictionaries and for the control of new and/or additional data elements.
● Testing and optimization of proposed computed columns.
● Establish data elements and computed columns naming conventions and assure that product updates contain any site-specific items prior to end user testing.
● Understand and guard against the inappropriate alteration of data, responsible for moving all site-specific data elements to the LIVE environment for production.
● Recommend any additional hardware or software requirements needed for successful Ellucian Colleague deployments, configuration, or maintenance.
● Liaise with company’s Ellucian Colleague suppliers for prompt rectification of any problems or emergencies.
• Collaborate with analysts, designers, and system owners in the testing of Ellucian Colleague software programs and applications.
• Provide direction for the application team in support of Ellucian Colleague operations.
• Coordinate feasibility studies for Ellucian Colleague products under consideration for purchase, and give advice based on findings.
• Liaise with network administrators and software engineers to assist with design specifications, program logic, and data conversions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of a Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Business Administration.
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Business Administration, would be considered an asset.
• 5 years equivalent work experience.
• Certifications in Systems Administration / Database Administration would be an assist or equivalent combination of education and 5 years work experience. .
• Experience with Database Administration (MS SQL , Ingres) , System Administration, Analyzing Information, Teamwork, Written Communication.
• Experience with Solid Unix, Oracle, AS/400, and Microsoft Windows.
• Technically fluent in relational database administration.
• Knowledge of enterprise-level applications, including ERP, CRM, data warehouses, etc.
• Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
