$12.08 per hour (vacation pay included)

The Department of Pathology and Microbiology, Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island invites applications for a research student position in cancer pathobiology.


The student will assist with a Zoetis - funded research project with an emphasis on mediators of inflammation and invasion in oral squamous cell carcinoma. Responsibilities will include cell culture, molecular techniques such as RT-PCR and western blot, and immunohistochemistry. Other responsibilities will include preparing solutions and buffers and general laboratory maintenance. The student will participate in the AVC Summer Research and Leadership Program and will present a research poster.


• Should possess strong communication and organizational skills
• Highly motivated and be able to work independently
• Minimum qualification is successful completion of first year in a DVM program, and be familiar with basic laboratory skills and practices
• Experience with cell culture, western blot and RT-PCR are desirable
• Experience with immunohistochemistry and an interest in cancer research and pathology would be assets

Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and Procedures manual.
