$51,110 - $56,200 per annum, prorated to time and term as per CUPE 1870

As soon as possible until June 2014 (Term may be reduced or extended depending on performance, available funding and departmental requirements.)

 The Department of Physics invites applications for a part-time term Laboratory and Instructional Resources Technician position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful applicant will be required to:
• set up and supervise undergraduate laboratories
• work with faculty to prepare new lab experiments, multi-media tutorials and classroom demonstrations
• perform general inventory
• purchasing, set-up and maintenance of laboratory equipment
• responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Department telescope and for conducting public telescope viewings
• engage in a number of important Departmental outreach initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS:
• B.Sc. in Physics or Engineering-Physics, or equivalent relevant degree
• M.Sc. in Physics would be an asset
• Demonstrated ability to work independently
• Relevant experience in undergraduate laboratory and/or resource centre instruction;
• Experience in the operation and maintenance of a telescope
• Experience in the use, basic set-up and maintenance of multi-media computers and auxiliary hardware and software
• Experience in laboratory equipment use, maintenance and purchase
• Experience in information retrieval from the Internet
• Basic website design and maintenance
• A working knowledge of PCs, Macs, Linux, Windows, Word and at least one commercial spreadsheet package would be an ass
• Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to maintain effective interpersonal relations
