The University of Prince Edward Island is seeking a motivated, out-going professional to be the main contact with students in the Cooperative Education Program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working closely with the Co-op Job Development Coordinator, the CSC will:

• Proactively promote the UPEI Co-operative Education program to students and ensure there is a clear understanding of the academic requirements and processes of the program as well as the work term expectations
• Coordinate the student application and selection process
• Assist the Co-op Job Development Coordinator in the development and delivery of a Co-operative Education Marketing Plan
• Work with Career Services in the on-campus promotion of the Co-operative Education program
• Regularly schedule meetings with all Co-op students to discuss their progress in the program and identify potential program retention issues
• Advise and counsel students; respond to student inquiries; engage and support students; work with students to enhance their professionalism
• Maintain the ORBIS database to ensure student data is accurate, current, and kept up-to-date
• Prepare reports including end of term summary report of student participation in the program
• Work with the Career Services staff and Academic Directors to support the development and delivery of the professional development modules (e.g. COOP 200, COOP 300, and COOP 400) and ensure that they are regularly evaluated
• Coordinate student recognition events for Co-op
• Co-host a series of business/industry events with the Co-op Job Development Coordinator and encourage student participation and membership in business associations and chambers of commerce
• Liaise regularly with the Academic Directors to ensure that students are fulfilling the academic requirements of the program
• Use feedback received from students to support the Co-op Job Development Coordinator in employer recruitment
• Participate in regular monthly meetings with RIRO Director, Academic Directors, and the Co-op Job Development Coordinator to provide program updates and discuss issues

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A university degree in a relevant field (e.g.: Humanities, Counselling, Education); a Cooperative Education designation would be considered an asset
• A minimum of two years in a teaching, coaching or mentoring role
• Demonstrated interpersonal and intercultural communication skills
• An understanding of and sensitivity to cross-cultural experiences and educational backgrounds
• Experience in managing a database, MS Office Tools, Google applications
• Experience with social media software and networking applications such as blogs, podcasts, LinkedIn and Twitter
• Awareness of work culture in other countries and experience working in a university environment would be considered an asset
