$13.41 per hour (vacation pay included)

Dr. Gordon MacDonald, School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences, is looking for student research assistants to work on a research project with the goal of creating more efficient matrix multiplication algorithms.


The Research Assistant will assist in the problem of finding faster matrix multiplication algorithms. This problem has already been reduced to an equivalent problem of matching certain grid patterns. The project with consist mainly of developing and implementing a search for these matchings.


• The successful candidate will have completed at least two years of a Mathematics Major or Computer Science Major program (or both)
• Knowledge of Linear Algebra and excellent coding skills are essential, and students should have (at a minimum) completed UPEI’s Math 191, Math 192, Math 261, CS 151 and CS 152 (or their equivalents)
• Students must include their grades in these courses with their applications, and by applying, give consent for the Associate Dean of School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences to verify these grades through UPEI's online course management system
