Reporting to the Manager of Industry Research, this individual would be responsible for: the provision of technical advice, expertise and support related to engineering science labs, prototype testing, research and clinic projects; and the School’s health and safety program. This individual would interact with students, academic staff and other technical and administrative staff on a daily basis.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in the coordination of equipment purchase, maintenance; and inventory
• Assist in the procurement of all materials and supplies
• Act as the main technical resource to academic staff, other technicians and students
• Provide advice, expertise and support in the design, setup and supervision for experimental labs and prototype testing associated with student design projects, and in the areas of machine and system performance measurement, experimental sensors, data acquisition and analysis and associated software
• Assist faculty with the development of research equipment and setups
• Overall responsibility, as Area Lead, for the Faculty’s health and safety program, including the development and implementation of policies and procedures; the management of training and certification of academic staff, other staff and students; safety inspections; and compliance assurance.
• Provision of technical advice and support to other engineering technicians and activities associated with the Faculty’s Centres of Excellence

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Masters of Science in Engineering
• Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience, including experience with testing, data acquisition and monitoring, and general laboratory equipment
• Excellent communication and problem solving skills
• Experience in a laboratory and shop environment
• Demonstrated creative, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to multi-task, coordinate projects and function professionally in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment
• Excellent computer skills
